Mauro Colombis is a Sydney based versatile Italian musician. He started playing the piano at the age of six in Pordenone (Italy), town where he lived until 2005, before moving to Australia. His qualifications include two masters in piano performance (Tchaikovsky Moscow Conservatorium and Venice Conservatorium) and a Bachelor of Arts, Music and Spectacle (University of Bologna). As classical musician he has given solo, piano duet and chamber music concerts in different European countries and Australia.
In 2003 he was one of the partecipants at the first Pordenone Masterclasses for silent film pianists. Since then he has specialised in silent films piano accompaniment and has played for Le Giornate del Cinema Muto, for major film festivals and institutions in Australia (National Film and Sound Archive – Canberra, Australia’s Silent Film Festival, Sydney Film Festival, Melbourne Film Festival, Adelaide Film Festival, The Australian Cinémathèque – Brisbane) and in Asia (Silent Film Festival of Thailand and Women on Silent Screen’s Conference in Shanghai).
